LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - A crash on I-91 northbound in Longmeadow before exit 2 is causing major backups tonight, and with record Memorial Day travel underway, conditions could get worse before they get better.

Traffic is pretty stop and go along I-91 northbound due to that accident along with Memorial Day Weekend travel being at its peak congestion right now.

The heaviest traffic congestion on the roads lasting until 6 p.m. and the lightest traffic day is expected to be Sunday.

AAA said 39.1 million drivers will be hitting the roads now until Monday and with that record number of drivers expected this Memorial Day weekend experts are reminding folks to slow down, move over and drive sober.

They also encourage drivers to make sure your car is road ready before traveling. AAA said they responded to over 300,000 roadside assistance calls last year. Helping drivers with things like flat tires, dead batteries, and empty fuel tanks.
