Pittsfield Police seek driver who killed a pedestrian, apparently dragging him for over 3 miles

PITTSFIELD — Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian late Tuesday in which the victim apparently was dragged for more than 3 miles.
The man, who was not identified, was found dead on West Housatonic Street near the Best Western Plus hotel, according to a statement released Wednesday evening by Pittsfield Police. The driver fled the scene.
The victim was believed to have been struck by a sedan, possibly a dark colored Toyota or Honda, in the area of Francis Avenue and Linden Street about 11:30 p.m., based on witness reports. He then became trapped under the vehicle and was apparently dragged on Linden Street, Robbins Avenue, Daniels Avenue, Columbus Avenue, Onota Street, South Merriam Street and West Housatonic Street.
Police are asking for any witness reports or security camera footage that may have captured information along that route. Information may be sent to Officer Anthony Dayton at [email protected] or 413-448-9700, ext. 543, or Sgt. David Hallas at [email protected] or ext. 560.
