AMHERST, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Amherst has announced they will be collaborating with MassDevelopment to start planning for the future of Hampshire College in June.

In a release, the town said they’re hoping “developable portions” of the campus will generate property tax revenue and housing.

MassDevelopment will provide environmental, land use, and economic development expertise in the process.

“The work with the Town’s staff will lead to a full community discussion with the Town’s boards and elected leaders to plan and guide future development that will align with the Town’s overall goals,” said Amherst Town Manager Paul Bockelman.

A website dedicated to the process is expected in the coming weeks. It will include updates on the project as well as collect questions, comments and/or ideas from the community.
