Pride Month is here. Here's what's happening in the Berkshires as Berkshire Pride marks its 10th season

It's Pride Month in the Berkshires, and Berkshire Pride is marking its 10th season of celebrations with events across the county throughout June and into July.
This year marks Berkshire Pride's 10th season of celebration. The organization will host events throughout the Berkshires as part of its signature Pride Festival. Those events seek to "foster connection, visibility, and joy, reinforcing the region’s commitment to an inclusive future," according to a news release, which also affirmed that "every day is pride."
“Celebrating 10 Seasons of Pride in the Berkshires, while continuing to expand celebrations across the county, is a powerful reflection of our community’s strength, visibility, and unity,” said Berkshire Pride Executive Director Cass Santos-China in a statement. “We are honored to share this milestone with our neighbors from Lee to Lenox, and from Pittsfield to North Adams."

Festivities officially kicked off Saturday with a flag raising at Pittsfield City Hall and continue through July 12, ending with a Youth Pride event at Burbank Park in Pittsfield.
After the flag raising kick-off event, Berkshire Pride recognized the Elizabeth Freeman Center as its community partner of the year for its lasting impact on the Pride community, crediting it for its work with Berkshire Pride's Educating Equity Program, the GSA Unification Project and Berkshire Pride’s After-School Program for LGBTQ+ youth, as well as for its consistent financial support.
"What makes the Elizabeth Freeman Center such an extraordinary partner is not only the resources they provide, but the way they consistently show up for our community with compassion and humanity,” said Berkshire Pride President Michael Taylor in a statement.
Berkshire Pride launched in 2016 as a "shoestring affair" organized by a small group of volunteers that attracted about 500 attendees at its first event, according to WAMC. It has since grown to a monthlong festival that spans parades, youth programming and wellness events that attracts thousands.
"This 10th Annual Season is not simply a moment of reflection, but a declaration that Pride in the Berkshires is a permanent and growing part of our region’s cultural and civic life," Santos-China said. "We move forward together, building on the past decade as a foundation for the future.”
