Propane leak prompts evacuation in Pittsfield
PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - A Pittsfield property had to be evacuated for hours on Thursday afternoon after a 1,000-gallon underground propane tank was found leaking.
Officials to set up a perimeter on Shaker Lane since propane can be deadly if inhaled at high concentrations or exposed to fire.
Once power was shut off in the area, crews methodically, and carefully, dissipated the propane — which took four hours.
Several industry experts and technicians were called in to guide and oversee the process.
Police and fire crews helped keep the perimeter safe and redirect traffic. Thanks to the quick response and precautions taken, no one was hurt.
