SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - City Councilor Zaida Govan is filing an ordinance to expand the city’s Senior Tax Work Off Program to include veterans in Springfield.

This program allows senior property owners to volunteer community service in exchange for a tax-cut on their property.

Councilor Govan commented on the need to give back to those who served us saying, “We must do what we can as a city to support them. This proposal not only provides assistance to our veterans, but also allows our municipal departments to benefit from the skills and experience of an already well-trained group of residents.”

The ordinance will be debated by the city in December.
