‘Reese Pet Food Initiative’ launches to support pets in need

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - The Foundation for TJO Animals is launching a new initiative aimed at helping local families feed their pets before financial hardships turn to crisis.
It’s called the ‘Reese Pet Food Initiative’ named in honor of Reese, a dog who suffered serious neglect and abuse.
As part of the pilot launch, TJO is partnering with Lorraine’s Soup Kitchen in Chicopee, where pet food and supplies will be made available onsite and throughout their mobile delivery system.
Organizers hope the initiative will continue to grow throughout Western Mass to prevent animal suffering before it begins.
“Our goal is to try to keep pets in homes – that’s the biggest thing in animal welfare right now. We’re seeing a lot surrenders. We’re seeing a lot of emaciated animals. So if this is just one little way we can try to help," said Janna Brown, executive director of The Foundation for TJO Animals. “You know, Dakin has this amazing pet food pantry. There’s so many other rescues in Western Mass that are working to do the same thing… and this is our way to help out.“
If you’d also like to help out, they’re collecting food for dogs and cats, wet or dry, as well as cat litter and pet supplies like toys, leashes, collars and beds.
Donations can be dropped off at The Foundation for TJO Animals at 237 Memorial Drive in Springfield.
