WESTFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - On Saturday morning, The Westfield Fire Department was sent out to the area of 1100 Russell Road for the report of a person that found their self stuck in the Swift River.

When arriving to the scene, rescue crews first attempted to direct the person out of the river. Due to freezing water temperatures and steep banks, the person could not manage to get out of the river alone.

Due to the person’s struggles, the Western Massachusetts Technical Rescue Team had to step in. Crews managed to pull the person out safely and without any injury.

The Westfield Fire Department went on to remind people to be cautious and keep a safe distance from fast moving water as conditions can be more dangerous than they look.
