Rescue crews save stranded hiker with broken leg

SOUTHWICK, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Southwick Police said a hiker fell and broke his leg in the rushing waters of Granville Gorge, and a mom and her kids are to thank for his rescue.
On Wednesday, Westfield-Southwick Regional Dispatch got a call from a young mother who heard a man screaming for help while hiking with her children. They found him stranded on a rock in fast-moving water, unable to walk, and called for help.
Southwick Police and Fire crews waded out to the man and found he had a broken leg and ankle after slipping while jumping from rock to rock. Paramedics splinted his injuries before police and firefighters carried him to shore.
