SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Tenants of the Chateau Apartments on Temple Street in Springfield said they’ve had enough. Some residents told Western Mass News they’ve lived there for over a decade, dealing with dangerous and unhealthy living conditions.

Multiple tenants we spoke with today say they’re dealing with serious issues inside these units, and they say management isn’t fixing them fast enough. Inside the Chateau Apartments, one resident shared this photo with us, showing damaged trim with exposed nails, one of several maintenance problems they say management hasn’t addressed.

Tenants also told us issues like these broken fixtures and unsafe, deteriorating conditions are becoming the norm in their building. Just this week, residents said they went days without hot water.

It’s not just that, tenant Amanda Alonzo told us residents are living in dangerous, unsanitary conditions, including a mouse infestation, and fears what will happen if the building is ever condemned, “the mice’, the infestation of the mice, it’s all over. They’re not just climbing or walking, they’re eating the food, they’re swimming in the tub. They’re sleeping with you whatever it is in this apartment, they are everywhere we can’t get rid of them. Where are we going to go when they condemn the building? Half of these people don’t have families to go to, we don’t have hotels to go to, we don’t have cars, we don’t have anybody where are we going to go to? In the streets?”

We also spoke with tenant Sandra Holmes; she told Western Mass News enough is enough and said it’s time the building’s owner steps up and fixes these ongoing issues she’s been dealing with for over a decade, “we live here, we pay rent, we deserve to live safe and have everything to our accommodations. We’re human beings and we deserve to live like human beings and have our places and our houses fixed correctly.”

Western Mass News reached out BlueRise Group, the management company for the apartment building.

During a phone call with Western Mass News, one person claimed to be a management member with the company, who did not provide us with their name, said they are currently working to address all issues with the building.

Later tonight on Western Mass News at 10 and 11, we’ll have more from tenants and the issues they are dealing with on a daily basis.
