Sapowsky Farms welcomes new owners with open arms

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - A longstanding farm in Granby has entered a new chapter.
Sapowsky Farms welcomed their new owners after nearly eight decades of being in the family business and they couldn’t be happier about who it is.
“Stephen and I did not want to sell to development,” said Manager of Sapowsky Farms Tammy Sapowsky.
Tammy and co-owner Stephen are taking a step back and retiring, but the question remained: what are they going to do with their business?
That’s when their longtime friends at McKinstry Farms stepped in.
Based out of Chicopee, the McKinstry family has also sold freshly grown foods since 1908. In August of 2025, the Sapowskys began having talks with the McKinstrys about transferring ownership to them, an opportunity both families could not turn down.
“We’re going to, every day, try to make them proud and continue that same legacy that we have in Chicopee out here in Granby as our second location,” said Warren McKinstry, store manager of McKinstry Farms.
The transition was officially complete on May 1. Warren’s brother Will is taking on the role of head grower for both locations while Warren is overseeing both farmstands, a new era the McKinstrys are excited about.
“It’s always been a dream of mine to grow our farm and to offer the freshest vegetables to everyone that we can,” said Will.
As a special thank you for all they have done, the McKinstrys are keeping the Sapowsky name on their sign.
Tammy says she will remain on staff as the Granby farmstand’s baker and manager. Both families hope the public will continue supporting the farmstands as they both grow in the years to come.
