Scotland, Haiti fans flock to Boston Stadium for its first World Cup match

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Saturday’s game between Scotland and Haiti marked the first World Cup game played at Boston Stadium, and fans on both sides were both ready to witness their teams end their respective tournament droughts. Western Mass News was in Foxborough as fans showed off their pride.
For Scotsmen and women and Haitians alike, Saturday was a day and night to remember. Foxborough’s Boston Stadium being the site of an historic matchup for both Haiti and Scotland. Haiti played in its first World Cup since 1974 — while for Scotland, its first since 1998. Fans from both sides brought the energy, “I came all the way from Australia just for this moment. This is a big moment. Twenty-eight years. Had to be here,” said Scotland supporter Michael Webster.
“We are proud of Haiti regardless, win or lose. This is what we bleed, so we bleed this color. The blue and red every day,” said Haiti fan Mick Tereau.
Many fans coming from near and far to witness and embrace a spectacle they have never seen in person. Hours before opening kick, it was nothing but celebration. Scotland’s next game will be on Friday against Morocco also in Foxborough, while Haiti will take on Brazil in Philadelphia that same day.
As for Boston Stadium’s next game, it is Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. when Iraq takes on Norway.
