NATICK, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - An armed security guard was taken for a medical evaluation on Tuesday after a SWAT team responded to a shelter-in-place at the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Systems Center.

Just after 9 a.m., police were called to Natick Labs for a possible person in distress. According to the Natick Police Department, the suspect was an on-duty security officer.

The unnamed officer fled into an area of the base where he was able to be contained. After several hours, the suspect surrendered and was taken to the hospital for evaluations.

The identity of the officer has not yet been released and no injuries have been reported.

Wilson Middle School and Bennett-Hemenway Elementary School near the center were placed in a secure hold for a brief time out of an abundance of caution.
