FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - The World Cup Quarterfinals wrapped up at Boston Stadium as France took on Morocco.

Western Mass News has spent the day in Foxborough talking to fans and local businesses about what makes this soccer tournament so special here in the Baystate.

The energy was high from fans on both sides of the quarterfinal; with everyone we spoke to told us that the World Cup experience here in Massachusetts was second to none, “you need to live it at least once in your life, because you never know when it comes back,” said one Morocco supporter.

Of course though, when world-class competitors are in town, it’s more about the stars than the scenery, “this is Mbappé as a kawaii, this is him as Tung Tung Sahur, and this is him as a turtle, and this is another one of him as a kawaii cat,” said artist and France fan Lauren McCarthy.

For new local businesses like Eleveno Pickleball, who turned their courts into a beer garden, it was perfect timing too, “we just opened our beer garden one day before the first FIFA game. So, we’re flying the plane while we’re building it at the same time, and the soccer fans have welcomed us with open arms,” said CEO of Eleveno Pickleball Jodi Cullity.

With everyone, whether in work uniform or fan gear, saying the same thing: no matter how heated the rivalry on the field, in the stands, unity is always the goal, “our Narragansett was their top favorite which was a local Rhode Island beer, so it was really cool for us to teach some of our local specialties to the international fan base,” Cullity said.

“The mood is great and it shows that everyone is united. There’s no politics or anything. Fútbol is great, honestly,” Morocco fan Ismael said.

France won 2-0, and they’ll take on the winner of Spain and Belgium on July 14th in Dallas.
