SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Springfield’s new $1.4 billion dollar budget is now official, city councilors voted 10 to 3 on Thursday night in favor of Mayor Domenic Sarno’s fiscal 2027 plan. The mayor said the plan avoids layoffs and prioritizes funding schools. Also, it balanced the budget without using stabilization reserves.

Sarno gave a statement, which reads in short, “this budget reflects a clear, disciplined and sustainable approach to managing the city’s finances, maintaining core services, controlling costs, and planning responsibly for the future.”

Sarno also said there’s also new targeted tax relief, along with lower age requirements and higher abatements for seniors.
