SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Less than a year after the new Springfield Crossing opened for business, the property is already back on the market.

The shopping plaza is listed on Loopnet.com. The new $77 million complex was supposed to be a fresh start, but now if you shop there, there are real questions about what comes next.

The listing of the 232,000 square foot complex comes just months after BJ’s Wholesale Club opened and just weeks before the new Target anchor store is set to open its doors.

For shoppers who watched the old Eastfield Mall crumble in 2023, the news is a shock.

Carolyn Easton drives from Belchertown to shop at the crossing. For her and many in Wilbraham and Ludlow, this new hub saves a twenty minute trip to Chicopee. Now, a change in ownership raises a simple question: will the convenience they just found still be there?

The listing shows the property is 99 percent leased, featuring national names like Hobby Lobby and Chic-Fil-A. The owners, Onyx Partners Limited, secured a nearly $50 million loan for the project in early 2025 and now, less than a year later, they’re asking the market to set the price.

While there’s no asking price listed, for regular customers the numbers that matter most are the hours of operation for stores they rely on.

“I hope they keep it open,” said Easton. “I didn’t even know that it was for sale.”

Until the owners set a price and a buyer steps up, Springfield Crossing shoppers are left wondering if the convenience they just found is here to stay.

Owner Onyx Partners has yet to comment on the listing.
