SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Several city officials showed up at Sci-Tech Thursday to recognize the boy’s basketball team’s impressive season.

State Representative Bud Williams spoke to the team along with city councilors Justin Hurst and Tracye Whitfield, who gave the team an official proclamation from the Springfield City Council.

The Cybercats only had 4 regular season losses, en route to the school’s first ever Class-B Western Mass title. They also made it to the sweet 16, where their run ended after their matchup against Greater Lawrence Tech.

We caught up with Coach Shalka Rivera who told Western Mass News how history was made, “this group right here, they bought in, they bought in to what we were trying to build and for them to make history, I mean, couldn’t be any prouder than this group.”

Sophomore Jayden Vellon also spoke about his first experience in the postseason “It was amazing, it was a great feeling we all dreamed about this and a lot of people didn’t believe in us but us and the coaches, and we did it.”
