Springfield Symphony Orchestra hosts auction for a chance to be a conductor

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - If you’re feeling extra patriotic, you have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to take the podium at this year’s Star-Spangled Springfield.
For the first time in nearly 28 years, the full 62 piece Springfield Symphony Orchestra will perform at Riverfront Park’s Festival Field on July 4th, marking America’s birthday.
Through a new “Bid on the Baton” online auction, you can bid for the right to conduct one musical selection in front of an expected 5,000 plus crowd.
Bidding starts at $500 and runs until noon on Tuesday, July 2nd with all proceeds supporting the Springfield Symphony Orchestra’s free community concerts, music education, and outreach.
