Suspicious package sends three Springfield schools into lockdown

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Three Springfield schools went into a brief lockdown today after a hoax threat was made in the area.
Putnam Academy, STEM Middle Academy, and The High School of Science and Technology went into a perimeter lockdown for about 10 minutes Thursday afternoon — according to Springfield Public Schools officials.
Western Mass News drove by Putnam Academy around 1:30 p.m. that day and spotted what looked like a dozen police cruisers patrolling the area. Springfield Fire officials said they were alerted to a suspicious package — but it was deemed to be not dangerous.
