WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - The Big E is enlisting local students to re-imagine its farm mascot “Chick-E” in honor of America’s 250th birthday.

5 Pioneer Valley high schools, Agawam, Holyoke, Westfield, West Springfield, and Pope Francis Prep have each designed and hand-painted a patriotic Chick‑E statue that will be displayed during this year’s fair from September 18th through October 4th.

Pope Francis Prep’s statue which is in progress and on your screen now, is a multi-year collaboration started last school year, and being finished by returning students. All five statues will be inside the New England Center at The Big E, where fairgoers can vote for their favorite design.
