Those who gave the ultimate sacrifice honored in Belchertown

BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) -- On this Memorial Day, Belchertown’s Department of Veterans Services toughed out the rain and honored those who gave their lives for our nation.
The ceremony was held inside at the Belchertown United Church of Christ. There, members of the town’s Eagle Scouts, town leaders, and neighbors paid their respects and remembered the names of local residents who gave the ultimate sacrifice for Americans’ way of life.
“We have a long history of supporting our fallen veterans and honoring them, and we were not going to let a little bit of rain today keep us from doing that,” said Belchertown Town Manager Stecen Williams. “We have a very strong presence of veterans and military personnel living here in Belchertown and we support them every day.”
It’s important to note, many veterans continue to face challenges even when they return home. That includes with their mental health.
If you’re a veteran or are worried about one, you can dial 988 and press one.
