Thunderbirds host their annual sensory friendly game

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - The Springfield Thunderbirds hosted their annual inclusive game day experience, so if you are sensitive to noises but love to watch hockey live, this was the event for you.
In partnership with Center for Human Development and Springfield College’s Department of Occupational Therapy, the Thunderbirds had their 6th annual sensory friendly game.
To honor those who may not be comfortable around loud noises or flashing lights, the Thunderbirds are striving to make every fan feel welcome.
some of the changes being made at this game include: low goal horn and noise meters, decreased microphone & music volume, no strobing lights, consistent lighting throughout the game and pregame, two “cool down stations” which are quiet areas on the concourse and main entry level of the MassMutual Center, away from the seating bowl.
The event took place at 3:05 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, against the Bridgeport Islanders at the MassMutual Center in Springfield.
