Thunderbirds to play final game in first round of Calder Cup Playoffs

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - The Springfield Thunderbirds kicked it into high gear in the Calder Cup Playoffs.
The team beat the Charlotte Checkers on Friday night five to two.
Wyatt Newpower put the Thunderbirds on the board nearly eight minutes into the second period. Chris Wagner also scored two goals, including the one that put the team ahead.
The Thunderbirds play against the Checkers again for the final game of round one Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the MassMutual Center.
