SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Our team coverage on the expected winter weather turns Western Mass News on how local tow companies are preparing for calls they may receive once the snow begins.

Tow truck drivers are bracing for what could be one of their busiest nights of the year. Interstate Towing told us that their phones could ring non-stop with crashes and stranded drivers, and they’re hoping you won’t be one of them.

Vice President of Interstate Towing Stephen Gonneville told Western Mass News that every truck in their lot is fueled, equipped, and ready to roll. Lastly, Extra crews are on standby. He said they’re prepared for the worst, “we tend to do a lot of winch outs, recoveries, the cold the weather brings, jump starts, but, you know, it’s just going to be possibly a lot of crashes. I hope not. But people need to slow down and drive to the weather conditions, not drive like they’re normally driving because the speed makes a huge factor in what goes on out there.

Gonneville’s advice: stay home if you can. If you can’t, leave a half hour to 45 minutes early. If you see those yellow emergency lights, slow down and move over—it’s the law.

Bottom line: tow companies are ready for tonight’s storm. The question is, are you?
