Towns across western Mass. take part in National Drug Takeback Day

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - The Hampden County Sheriff’s Office is urging families to clean out their medicine cabinets this weekend as part of national prescription drug take back day.
Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the afternoon, you can drop off unused or expired medications at police departments or public safety complexes inDeerfield, Easthampton, Hadley, Leverett, Pelham, South Hadley, West Springfield, and more.
Staff from the sheriff’s offices and the district attorney’s offices will collect and safely dispose of the drugs free of charge and completely anonymous.
Hampden County Sheriff Nick Cocchi said leftover prescriptions can quietly become a risk for families and kids, and that taking just a few minutes to turn them in can help prevent misuse and save lives.
