Train car fire at Longmeadow rail crossing extinguished by multiple departments

LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Multiple fire departments responded to a freight train car fire Thursday morning at the Emerson Road rail crossing, according to the Longmeadow Fire Department.

Westcomm Regional Dispatch alerted the Longmeadow Fire Department to the fire at approximately 2:24 a.m. Firefighters arrived to find a single train car containing construction debris that had been ignited by embers from one of the locomotives.

The East Longmeadow Fire Department and the North Thompsonville Fire Department assisted in extinguishing the fire. The Shaker Pines Fire Department and the Agawam Fire Department provided coverage during the response.

No injuries were reported. The scene was cleared at 5:42 a.m.
