UMass chef to remain behind bars following alleged murder of wife

AMHERST, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - A UMass chef accused of killing his wife on campus will stay behind bars rather than in a hospital as his murder case moves forward.
Jeffrey MacDonald was arrested in April for allegedly beating and killing Emma MacDonald, a dining supervisor at the university.
Investigators say he told police he beat his wife to death inside Room 413 of Hotel UMass.
Officers say they struggled to restrain MacDonald and that he threw objects at them, striking one officer.
He is charged with first-degree murder and assault and battery on a police officer.
A hearing about a mental health evaluation was held on Tuesday after his stay at Bridgewater State Hospital. Documents were not made public, but they determined that he will not be staying at the hospital.
The hearing was originally scheduled for last month but was later postponed until Tuesday. MacDonald was evaluated during that time.
He will be transported to the Hampshire County Correctional Facility awaiting his next court date scheduled for July 28. He will be held without prejudice.
It was also mentioned in court on Tuesday that MacDonald has been indicted by a grand jury and they are currently waiting for a date for him to be arraigned.
