Video shows large, noisy car meet up ahead of holiday

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - New video taken at Springfield Plaza shows a common sighting, a large car meet up that turns noisy and police say they’re watching crowds closely with July 4 coming up.
The meet ups are happening on a regular basis and police want it to stop.
Video taken right outside the Western Mass News station on Liberty Street shows multiple cars and dirt bikes blocking traffic, beeping, and burning rubber.
Springfield police spokesperson Ryan Walsh says law enforcement shows up to disperse these meetings, usually after a noise complaint from a resident, but the crowd just moves to another parking lot.
Meeting up with friends won’t get you in trouble, but police are on the lookout for any disturbances such as noise from a loud exhaust or blasting music.
Walsh says that by not causing disturbances, it’ll help police stay ready for other problems.
“It is just a sign of disrespect to blast your music at 3 o’clock in the morning,” he said. “And it takes our officers, as many of them must go, to disperse these crowds away from more important calls of people that may need a police officer.”
Police are also asking crowds to respect the property, especially when more people come together in places like the Springfield Plaza to watch fireworks shows.
Another video from a Western Mass News viewer shows a large amount of trash left over from a viewing party at Szot Park in Chicopee.
With more crowds expected for the holiday, police say respecting neighbors and the property you’re using can go a long way.
