Vigil held for UMass worker Emma MacDonald

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - UMass Dining Supervisor Emma MacDonald is being remembered at an on-campus vigil after she died two weeks ago at Hotel UMass.
Jeff MacDonald, her husband and a chef at the university, was charged with her murder.
The university hosted a vigil to remember Emma Tuesday afternoon. Organizers passed out domestic violence awareness pins all in an effort to honor their friend and colleague.
Emma’s former nutrition intern Paige Sherry worked with her during her senior year. Sherry described Emma as the best boss she ever had. She said she worked with her four to five times a week over her senior year and the two became very close.
“After I graduated we would do our routine life updates to each other over text,” Sherry said. “She sent photos of her daughter, living her best life and her all snuggled up in bed with her dogs and her guinea pig.”
Sherry says today was her first time back on campus since graduating last May.
In a statement, UMass Chancellor Javier Reyes said Emma’s friends called her an incredible woman. The university said the magnitude of the vigil spoke for itself.
Jeff MacDonald is expected back in court on May 12.
