HOLYOKE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Multiple communities plan to open warming centers as frigid temperatures arrive this weekend. Western Mass News continued our team coverage outside Providence Ministries in Holyoke with more details.

With the frigid weather headed our way, multiple local communities are offering warming centers for those in need this weekend. On your screen now is a list of just some of the communities that will have warming centers available in the coming days.

That list including Greenfield, Hadley, Northampton, West Springfield, and Enfield, Connecticut. We spoke with Susan Fournier, case manager at the Loreto House in Holyoke — part of Providence Ministries.

She told us while it hasn’t been announced yet by the city, their warming center will likely be open to the public in the days ahead, “They come in, they get a nice hot meal, they get cozy clothes, take a nice hot shower then come in and here and get to watch TV. They’ll stay here get a good night’s sleep, eat a lot which we’re fine with. The worst part is waking them up in the morning when they have to leave.”

Fournier told us if it feels like ten degrees or less the warming shelter will open up to the public and even though it hasn’t officially been declared if the shelter will be open this weekend, she tells us they are prepared for the influx of guests.
