PITTSFIELD — New Year’s Day is a fresh start for many. But for little Amelia Ann Witto, the first baby in Berkshire County to be born in 2026, it was the freshest start of all.

At 10:12 a.m. on Jan. 1, Amelia was born right on her due date at Berkshire Medical Center. Weighing 9 pounds, 3 ounces and measuring 20.5 inches, she was not only polite enough to be punctual but has shown a remarkably agreeable attitude since her birth, according to her parents, Tiffany Witto, 34, and Jes Witto, 35.

At Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Jes and Tiffany Witto celebrate the birth of their third child, Amelia, who was born on Jan. 1. Amelia’s birth on New Year’s Day, “it just worked out that way,” Tiffany said.

The proud mom and dad settled on her name after much deliberation.

“We’ve looked at every name, ever,” said Tiffany on Friday afternoon as she showed off newborn Amelia. “And this is the only one we could agree on.”

The couple met through mutual friends in their youth and became high school sweethearts before eventually marrying in 2016. Tiffany works in the finance department for the Brien Center in Pittsfield, while Jes is a construction superintendent at William J. Keller and Sons.

Shortly before being discharged from the hospital, Tiffany Witto said she looked forward to returning home with Amelia and enjoying some peaceful time with her family.

The couple now live in Adams, where Amelia will soon be joining her two older siblings: a sister, age 7, and brother, age 5. They were “very excited” when they got to meet their new baby sister in the hospital on Thursday, Tiffany said.

As for Amelia’s birth on New Year’s Day, “it just worked out that way,” Tiffany said.

Despite speculation from friends and family that Amelia would be a Christmas baby, Tiffany felt her first contractions around 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and checked into the hospital some hours later. Compared to her other two children, she said Amelia’s birth was “pretty typical.” Molly Greason-Magee was the attending physician.

At the hospital Friday afternoon, Amelia cooed quietly while opening and closing her tiny hands. Already at ease with publicity, she even seemed to mug for the camera as an Eagle photographer snapped pictures of her in her rose-patterned cap and gown.
