Windsor voters approve $2.9 million budget, purchase new Highway Department truck

Windsor's annual town elections are May 18 with no contested races.
WINDSOR — Voters unanimously passed all articles at Monday’s annual town meeting, including the town and school spending budgets.
Town Administrator Madeline Scully said 52 out of 730 registered voters attended the 50-minute meeting at Town Hall on Route 9.
Voters approved a $2.9 million spending plan for fiscal 2027, an increase of 4.9 percent from the current fiscal year. It includes a 7.5 percent increase in the town’s share of the Central Berkshire Regional School District, to $1.3 million; a 10 percent increase in public safety expenses and salaries; and putting $93,000 toward the town's debt service.
The budget will result in an estimated 9.8 percent increase in the average single-family tax bill in fiscal 2027, making the approximate average tax bill $3,126.
Voters approved the borrowing of $90,000 to purchase a new truck for the Highway Department. The current, aging truck will be replaced and then retrofitted with $59,000 from free cash for use as a Fire Department brush truck.
Voters also approved moving $40,000 of the town's free cash to the town reserve fund for “extraordinary expenditures," $20,000 for the plow and wing assembly for a new Freightliner dump truck, $7,500 to purchase an enclosed trailer for Fire Department use and $2,500 to repair the steps of the Historic Museum.
