BOSTON (WGGB/WSHM) - Western Mass News is your local sports authority, and the biggest sports tournament in the world has taken over Boston for the past couple of weeks now. With team USA in action as we speak, and Foxborough hosting Scotland and Morocco at 6 p.m. on Friday, the biggest fanfest yet is kicking off with some controversy.

Western Mass News has been at Boston City Hall where we heard fanfest has been delayed.

We’re still waiting to find out when fanfest will reopen due to the windy conditions, but that’s not stopping anyone in the city from having a good time. The Dubliner Irish Pub right across the street has been very busy for hours now, but if time is money — a drink here might bankrupt you.

It’s a Scottish invasion in the City of Champions, “The Scottish people have been so nice. I was wearing a Brazilian jersey, we did a jersey swap, the guy says let’s swap jerseys. We swapped jerseys last night,” said Abdiel Martinez.

And home base might actually be the exact spot you would expect.

You’d think it was Disney World at The Dubliner; the Boston City Plaza staple absolutely flooded with townies and tourists alike, “(we were) starting back there. We’re starting at Park Street, that’s where the line’s at,” said watch party goer Arturo Martinez.

“I’ve never seen the city like this. It feels alive, feels great. Love the energy, love the people,” John Larkey commented.

Because with the World Cup in town, it’s an international party by the pint — no matter the weather

The match between U.S. and Australia started at 3 p.m. on Friday.
