Healey announces funding for food education

(WGGB/WSHM) - 24 school districts such as Springfield, Easthampton and, Chicopee Public Schools and 10 early education care centers across the state are getting a healthy boost from the Healey-Driscoll Administration.
The $1.2 million MA Fresh grant will help educators teach students about nutrition, science, and our local food systems.
Governor Maura Healey said that increased access to healthy and locally sourced food is part of her goal to help combat the challenges families have faced with SNAP benefit cuts this year and help provide long-term solutions to hunger.
The Governor said, “when children understand how their food is grown and where it comes from, they can make healthier choices and support their communities. These grants also strengthen our local food system, so the benefits reach from our farms to our families.”
