ICE agents instructed to end most vehicle stops after fatal shootings in Maine and Texas

(CNN) — Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has paused most vehicle stops following two fatal shootings involving agents in Maine and Texas, according to a source familiar with the guidance.
The directive applies to ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations division, which handles arrests and deportations of undocumented immigrants.
Agents are being told to avoid initiating traffic stops and instead work with partner agencies when serving criminal warrants involving people in vehicles.
An ICE spokesperson said the agency is continually evaluating its procedures to protect officers and public safety, but the spokesperson declined to discuss specific enforcement tactics.
