15-year-old arrested in connection with Springfield shooting

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – A teenager is facing charges after a reported shooting in Springfield.

Around 9:25 p.m. Monday, officers responded to the 100 block of Dwight Street for ShotSpotter activation, according to Springfield Police spokesperson Ryan Walsh. When they arrived, police found evidence of a shooting, but no property damage or victims were located.

Investigators reviewed the city’s cameras and saw two suspect allegedly shoot at a group of people near Apremont Triangle. Those who were fired upon reportedly ran away and were not immediately found.

Walsh added that one suspect, identified as a 15-year-old boy, allegedly broke into a Mattoon Street apartment. Officers found and detained the suspect, who was later arrested. Due to the suspect’s age, his name and specific charges will not be released.

Police also reportedly found two illegal, large-capacity Ghost guns and other evidence on Mattoon Street.

The case remains under investigation by the Springfield Police detective bureau.
