SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Over a dozen people have been displaced following a Sunday night fire in Springfield.

Springfield Fire Capt. Drew Piemonte said crews were called to 583 Union Street around 10:45 p.m. Sunday for a reported fire. When firefighters arrived, they found fire coming from a back porch on the third floor and a second alarm was called.

No injuries were reported and 16 people, who have been displaced, are being assisted by the Red Cross.

Piemonte added that investigators determined that the fire was caused by the careless disposal of smoking materials.
