18 people displaced after three-alarm fire in Ware
WARE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – Over a dozen people have been displaced after a Ware building fire.
Ware Fire Chief James Martinez said emergency crews were called to a fire at 22-28 Otis Avenue late Thursday night. When they arrived, heavy fire and smoke were seen coming from 26 Otis Avenue. A third-alarm was eventually called as mutual aide from several area communities was called in.
Initial reports indicated that there may have been people trapped inside the building, but Martinez noted that it was found that everyone got out of the building safely before the first crews arrived.
Eighteen people were displaced because of the fire, which was contained to 26 Otis Avenue. Many of those displaced were relocated to a shelter established by the Red Ross at Ware Town Hall. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but officials believe it is accidental in nature.
