$1.8M awarded to help build pipeline of early childhood educators

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - The Healey Administration is investing in early childhood education careers across the state.
On Thursday, the state awarded $1.8 million to help train and place more than 300 apprentices in these careers. There were eight recipients of the grants, including the MassHire Berkshire Workforce Board in Pittsfield and MassHire Hampden County in Springfield.
MassHire Berkshire will now be able to enroll three cohorts of 10 apprentices in what’s being identified as a “childcare desert” of Berkshire County over three years. In Hampden County, they’ll be able to enroll 15 apprentices in another identified childcare desert of Springfield, as well as Holyoke and Chicopee.
The goal is to strengthen the state’s economic future through its early education workforce.
