SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – Four suspects are facing charges as Springfield Police continue an investigation into illegal drug sales.

Springfield Police spokesperson Ryan Walsh said that detectives with the department’s Firearms Investigation Unit had been investigating a group of people, accused of distributing illegal narcotics, over the past several months. As part of the investigation, a search warrant was executed on Fort Pleasant Avenue, which led to five arrests and trafficking weight of cocaine and fentanyl seized.

Detectives then applied for, and were granted, a search warrant for an apartment on the 100 block of Woodside Terrace. As police were preparing to execute the warrant around 5 p.m. Thursday, they reportedly saw several people, who spotted the nearby police presence, run back into the apartment. The warrant was then executed and the subject of the investigation, 18-year-old Julian Gonzalez of Springfield, as well as 52-year-old Antonio Feliciano of Springfield and 37-year-old Danielle Sperlonga of Lee were detained inside the apartment.

Investigators reportedly seized two illegal loaded guns, an additional gun magazine, a 29 round magazine that was loaded with 27 rounds of ammunition, over 140 rounds of loose ammunition, approximately 25 grams of powder and crack-cocaine, 17 bags of suspected fentanyl, and over $1,500 in cash during the search.

Gonzalez, Feliciano, Baez, and Sperlonga were placed under arrest on several drug and gun-related charges. Baez is also being held on a fugitive from justice warrant issued out of Vermont Superior Court.

Walsh noted that, as the search was getting underway, two people jumped from a third floor bedroom window in an attempt to flee the scene. While one suspect got away, another person, identified as 25-year-old Derrick Stenson, reportedly hurt himself in his alleged attempt to flee. Stenson was taken to Baystate Medical Center to get his injuries evaluated and he was later issued a criminal complaint on firearms and drug charges. Walsh added Stenson had an active parole warrant due to removing his GPS ankle-bracelet at the time of Thursday’s incident.

The case remains an active and ongoing investigation.
