- Female Maniac! A woman who had been wandering about the streets and fields in a state of mental derangement was lodged in the poorhouse in Northampton a few days since. She is apparently about 30 years of age, five feet in height, has dark hair and a long scar upon the left side of her neck. She does not ask for food or anything else, is obstinately silent most of the time, and will not tell her name or place of abode.
- Whereas Sophronia, my wife, has left my bed and board and refuses to live with me, I hereby forbid all persons harboring or trusting her on my account, as I will pay no debts of her contracting after this date. — Rhodolphus Searl, Southampton.

- Roy LaFleur, Francis Young, Arthur J. LeBeau, Arthur Howard and Phillip Vanasse will go to Boston Sunday in Mr. LaFleur’s auto, to visit City Auditor Horace C. LaFleur, who is recovering from an operation at Commonwealth Hospital in that city.
- Harry Daniel Associates announces that the much-awaited shipment of Boy Scout uniforms has arrived.
50 Years Ago
- The dispute over staffing Northampton’s personnel department was temporarily resolved this week when Dana Owens, a former personnel technician was hired to serve as a consultant to the new personal department through Sept. 10. Director Roger Turgeon, who had refused to work until an assistant was appointed, assumed his post this week.
- A group of Northampton businessmen is reportedly interested in leasing or purchasing the former Northampton Armory on King Street. The city property committee heard a proposal from local businessmen who are considering turning the old armory into a combination market, delicatessen and bakery.
