- City Democrats yesterday elected Hampshire County Commissioner David Musante as the new chairman of the Democratic City Committee. Musante, who was elected at an assembly of about 175 Democrats that was held at Rahar’s restaurant, replaces former state Rep. Edward A. McColgan, who is running for Congress.
- Long-time City Clerk James Faulkner is one of 10 Western Massachusetts citizens who will be recognized as an “outstanding servant of the public” by Channel 22 in Springfield on June 9. Faulkner, who was first elected city clerk in 1959, is the only Hampshire County resident who will be honored this year.

- JFK Middle School English teacher Nancy Cheevers is the first teacher in the district to become certified as a master teacher, a credential bestowed by the state and national Department of Education, which involves a lengthy and labor-intensive application process.
- Eric Suher has added another downtown property to his holdings — a one-story brick garage at 8 Pearl St., formerly the site of the auto repair company Competition Motors, right next door to Suher’s Pearl Street Nightclub at 10 Pearl St. Suher said he has no immediate plans for the one-time muffler shop which has been vacant for several months.

- At the sixth session of Amherst’s annual town meeting on Wednesday, members overwhelmingly approved, by a voice vote, a resolution written by Amherst Regional Middle School students that makes Amherst the first community in the state to formally replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day.
- Describing an affection for the town from his undergraduate years at Hampshire College, Paul Bockelman said Thursday he is ready to return to Amherst to continue his professional career. Bockelman, the director of administration and finance at the Massachusetts Municipal Association, has been offered the position to succeed the late Town Manager John Musante, who died in September.
