SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – A Springfield man has been arrested on gun-related charges after allegedly crashing a motorcycle.

Springfield Police spokesperson Ryan Walsh said officers were patrolling the South End around 5 p.m. Thursday when they saw a motorcycle moving erratically near Emerson Wight Park. They then saw the rider hit a curb and flip over on Marble Street.

The rider then began to run while also holding his waistband and carrying a backpack. Police chased the rider on foot until he went into an Oswego Street apartment building.

Investigators determined into which apartment the suspect ran and identified three people, including 20-year-old Angel Sanchez of Springfield. One person reportedly jumped out of a window before police were able to identify them. Police also received information that several people ran into an Adams Street apartment, including a 16-year-old boy who reportedly had two outstanding warrants and was placed under arrest.

Walsh added that during a search of the Oswego Street apartment, police found the backpack seen earlier after the motorcycle crash and a high-capacity firearm magazine and three 3D printed sear-selectors or Glock-switches inside the backpack. He added that the devices could turn a gun into a fully automatic machine gun. A loaded AR-style rifle, capable of holding 30 rounds of ammunition, was also found.

Sanchez was placed under arrested on charges including possession of a machine gun, possession of a loaded machine gun, improper storage of a large capacity firearm, possession of a high-capacity magazine or feeding device, and unlicensed possession of an assault weapon.

The name of the arrested 16-year-old will not be released due to this his age.
