Bacteria levels force closure of Puffers Pond in Amherst

AMHERST, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - A popular swimming spot in Amherst has been closed after state health officials said Puffers Pond at both Mill and State Streets show an excessive level of bacteria.
The bacteria could cause infections, especially if you have any open cuts, scrapes, recent tattoos, or piercings.
A reopening date hasn’t been set, but you can keep tabs on the closure by using the interactive beach water quality dashboard on mass.gov.
