Boston man dies after skydiving accident in Orange

ORANGE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – A Boston man is dead following a skydiving accident in Orange.
Melissa Sippel, spokesperson for the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, said emergency crews were called to Jumptown around 4 p.m. Sunday. A preliminary investigation indicates that a 28-year-old Boston man fell approximately 30 feet to the ground “when a sudden and unexpected gust of wind interfered with his parachute,” Sippel explained.
The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to Athol Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The medical examiner’s office will determine the manner and cause of death.
The accident remains under investigation by State Police detectives assigned to the D.A.’s office, Orange Police, and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
