Chicopee Fire Department upgrades emergency medical capabilities

CHICOPEE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - The Chicopee Fire Department has received a significant upgrade as they announced many new on-demand capabilities for patient care Tuesday afternoon.
Many of the station’s fire trucks are now equipped with equipment like medication for allergic reactions and pain management, glucose monitoring, manual suction for CPR, and asthma-related treatments. All six engine companies and two reserve engines are now licensed at the basic life support level.
“You know, just one step to keeping this community safer, making sure that when you call, someone who’s ready to serve at their best is going to knock on your door and take care of you and that’s really, we take a lot of pride in the services provided,“ said Chicopee Mayor John Vieau.
Vieau added that all staff were extensively trained on all the new additions.
