SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – The storm that dropped over a foot of snow across western Massachusetts has started to pull away and that means that cleanup efforts can get underway in earnest.

Across the valley, the snow’s consistency was light and fluffy, which allowed it to pile up quickly. Parts of Hampden County – included Chicopee, Holyoke, and Westfield - reported seeing 15 inches of snow, while communities like Goshen reported 20 inches of snow.

Parking bans have also been issued in several communities because of that snow. Officials are urging drivers to adhere to those bans, so DPW crews can work to clear the streets.

Ahead of and during the storm, over 200 closings and cancelations were reported into First Alert Weather. You can CLICK HERE for the latest list.

Even though the snow may be light and may seem easy to move and clear, officials are still urging people to be wary of health-related issues.
