Connecticut man arrested following Springfield SVU investigation

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) -- Springfield police say a Connecticut man has been arrested following an investigation by the Special Victim’s Unit.
While responding to a ShotSpotter notification on Maple Street early March 15th, police found 2 vehicles hit by bullets and a damaged window at a nearby elementary school. Officers then identified 30-year-old Javier Nieves as the suspect.
On Thursday, officers arrested him in Meriden, and recovered 3 different drugs during a car search.
A swat raid at his house turned up two illegal handguns reported stolen out of North Carolina, an AR-style rifle and two large-capacity magazines.
Nieves now faces a long list of Connecticut charges, plus a Springfield warrant for offenses related to guns and stalking.
He’s being held in Connecticut on bond and can be extradited to Massachusetts once his case there is resolved.
