LUDLOW, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -- A three-alarm fire at an industrial facility on Wyoming Street in Ludlow has been extinguished, fire officials said.

Crews responded to the fire near Westover Air Base Tuesday afternoon and hazmat technicians were called to the scene to monitor air quality in the area. Fire officials said there is no danger to the public at this time.

Conditions were active when crews first arrived shortly after 3 p.m. The State Fire Marshal’s Office said a rehab unit was deployed to support firefighter health and safety on scene.

Fire officials said several mutual aid departments responded, including crews from the Westover Fire Department, and all worked together to bring the fire under control.

Officials added they are still not sure where or how the fire started. “Now, the thing we want everybody to know is that the fire is now under control. We’re actually in the phase of going through and making sure everything’s out,” said Capt. Zac Ellison of the Ludlow Fire Department. “We’ve also called the state hazmat team in to do some remote area monitoring. We know people may have been concerned about the amount of smoke, so they’ll be monitoring the area to make sure folks are safe.”

Ludlow public safety officials said, as a precaution, nearby residents may wish to close their windows and doors if they feel it’s necessary. They are also asking everyone to stay away from the area.

At this time, there are no reports of injuries and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
