HOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) -- Another successful St. Patrick’s weekend celebration has come and gone in Holyoke. Now, it’s time to clean up.

While it was a little bit rainy, people still lined the streets to cheer on those participating in the race, and for the annual parade.

Western Mass News spoke with Holyoke’s Department of Public Works Director, Michael Gallagher, who said that while the crowds left a bunch of trash to clean up, the back-to-back events made it a two-part cleanup effort.

“Saturday, there was an enormous crowd downtown for the road race. And a lot of the cleanup efforts after the road race had to take place Sunday morning because the crowd was too great for us to get the men and equipment in there to do the cleanup,” he explained.

Once the road race was cleaned up, the streets were again littered after the parade.

The DPW Director says they are in a good spot cleaning up now, thanking all of the employees for the effort they put in.
